Terry Fanoula launches latest
Child Safe Zone at The Mall, East Gate, Gloucester
After
launches in other parts of the country, the South West saw
the introduction of Child Safe Zones as The Mall East Gate
became the first shopping centre in the South West to adopt
the initiative. The reaction from the people of Gloucester
was tremendous, to the scheme which is designed to protect
children. East Gate have contacted every primary school and
encouraged them to register with the scheme.
Registration
with Child Safe Zones means that your child’s details
are stored on a secure database including a description, contact
details and a head and shoulders picture of your child. If
you and your child become separated in East Gate, you can
authorise for your child’s details to be accessed by
security personnel and CCTV so that all staff have details
of who they are looking for. In addition, if your child is
tagged with a Child Safe Zones Family ID, anyone finding your
child can be put in touch with you immediately. Even if you
are not registered, simply call the number on posters and
window stickers around East Gate and security staff will be
available to help immediately.
Neil Draper, Centre Manager at The Mall, Eastgate,
explains the scheme saying “Child Safe Zones have been
created to ensure that children who become separated from
their family in busy places are kept in a safe environment
– and are reunited with their parents or carers as quickly
as possible.” Neil adds: “Adopting this scheme
enhances East Gate’s own ‘missing child’
policy and provides benefits to parents that extend far beyond
the shopping centre’s boundary to wherever they are
in the world.”
Neil Draper also said: “East Gate attracts thousands
of visitors every week and our team works hard to make the
shopping centre as safe an environment as possible.”
He adds: “Losing a child in a crowd is every parent’s
nightmare – so we are introducing Child Safe Zones and
are committed to making East Gate and Gloucester’s City
Centre a safer place to visit.”
Phil Dawson, General Manager said “The
East Gate Centre is the fifth shopping centre in the UK to
become a Child Safe Zone since our launch last year and we
are in talks with many other centres across the UK. The adoption
of our safety scheme will definitely make East Gate an even
safer place for families to shop and bring peace of mind to
parents who know how hard it can be to keep a constant eye
on wandering children."
